Faculty, Program/Area of study
Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engg., Energy systems

What do you like/love about your program?
As a Ph.D. student, I work on the generation of electricity via environment-friendly and clean energy resources, such as the energy available from the sun and the wind. Although the electrical current flows in a wire like a ghost, I feel proud and satisfied when I am able to tame that ghost!

What are your interests/passions/hobbies?
Yes, I can spend the remaining part in my life watching sport. I watch soccer, basketball, volleyball, and Handball. I wish I can find someone to show me how hockey is played so I can follow the Oilers! I like working out regularly, especially in the dark winter mornings in Edmonton!  I wish I like reading one day when I finish the Ph.D. I like all kinds of coffee and it is the best gift I can receive.

Do you have a talent or amazing experience?
If cooking is a talent, so I have this talent. I enjoy cooking all kinds of food, once I visit a restaurant I find myself focusing on how the meal I eat is cooked, once I go home I cannot wait until I cook it. To be honest, I do not cook meals that might take more than an hour. Everyone eats my food asks me to quit the Ph.D. program and open a restaurant. What makes my food different that I cook healthy, low-calorie, and tasty meals! My recipe is a secret!

What is one helpful study technique that you use?
I see writing notes about every class is the best technique to study. Preparing a good summary for each course make it easy to remember the main objectives and remind me of each course tricks. Solving assignments twice, one before the assignment due date and the other at the exam night can make any exam much easier than expected.

What language(s) do you speak or write?
I speak Arabic, English and fair French.

Describe yourself in 3 words
Kind, Helpful, Cheerful.

Faculty, Program/Area of study
Arts Psychology

What do you like/love about your program?
I love that psychology sets me on a path to help other people. It is a close study of human behaviour and I love how the knowledge is transferable to ones day to day life. They are my favourite classes as each one is more interesting then the next and honestly I can’t imagine myself doing anything else.

What are your interests/passions/hobbies?
My career goal is to become a psychologist as I am very passionate about mental health. Otherwise, I enjoy staying active by playing sports and volunteering. I also enjoy a good cup of coffee and exploring new cuisines while catching up with friends. In my free time, I love watching movies, listening to music or I'm probably re-watching the Office!

Do you have a talent or amazing experience?
No real talent but I am an identical twin so I think that makes me unique!

What is one helpful study technique that you use?
I live by my agenda. It is a fantastic method to keep organized and stay on top of all your responsibilities.

What language(s) do you speak or write?
English and Italian

Describe yourself in 3 words
Compassionate, Earnest and Gentle

Master of Science in Biochemistry

What do you like/love about your program?
Biochemistry deals with the physiochemical processes in organisms. Here we strive to figure out the cause of different human diseases, how small organisms can be used to purify petroleum, how drugs can be designed in light of structural biology, and numerous other interesting facts. The lab that I am in mostly focuses on DNA repair mechanisms in the context of structural biology. DNA, the information string in organisms, upon incurring damage can cause uncountable problems. Understanding the proper DNA repair mechanism is the key for unlocking such mystery. For all these coolest facts, I really love my research.

What are your interests/passions/hobbies?
For my pastimes, I like to code a lot. From time to time, I sing with my harmonium (a South Asian musical key instrument) or hit the pool in Van Vliet. On top of these, I am a great fan of anime and some popular sitcoms. If you are a Naruto or a GOT fan, we are a match. Occasionally, I like to discuss with my friends about world history, politics and problems. Through this discussion, I try to learn more about others’ perspectives towards the world. Sometimes, I like to spend quality time with the nature to reclaim myself.

Do you have a talent or amazing experience?
For sure, we will have an amazing journey over a cup of tea. So, let's have a tea time.

What is one helpful study technique that you use?
Peer tutoring others what I have learnt helps me a lot. Sometimes, your peer can come up with a different point of view that you might not think of at all. When you share each other ideas, the most difficult topic will ease out right away.

What language(s) do you speak or write?
English, Bengali, Hindi, Urdu and French

Describe yourself in 3 words
Adaptable, Passionate, Unique

Science, Psychology

What do you like/love about your program?
Since Grade 9, I've always been interested in the topic of psychology - both the social, biological, and genetic. It was at that point where I began reading books on the topic, and finally when it came time to apply for university and choose an undergraduate major, there was nothing else I would have rather pursued. My program is fantastic because it's very flexible with the classes I want to take, so I'm able to focus on those topics I'm most interested in while still working my way to a degree. Not only that, I have met many like-minded people in the same classes I've taken, and can connect with people because of a similar program, which is awesome!

What are your interests/passions/hobbies?
I'm super passionate about mental health! My career goal is either to become a psychiatrist or a psychology professor, both of which would allow me to help others in an area I am passionate about. Otherwise, I enjoy working out, playing badminton and volleyball, volunteering at the Royal Alex and in student groups, or spending time with my cat, Serendipity. In my free time, I'm probably binge watching Criminal Minds, Suits, the Mindy Project, or reading a book! I also work for Redbull on their Wings Team, which is a very energetic job, so it always gets me trying something new!

Do you have a talent or amazing experience to share?
Nothing too special - but I think that being in a sorority (Kappa Alpha Theta) and working for Redbull do make me fairly unique!

What is one helpful study technique that you use?
I cannot preach this enough: get an agenda and use it! With all the commitments that university students tend to have, it's the best method to keep organized, create a timeline for yourself, and to get ahead of the game! Without it, I would definitely be digging through syllabuses, random papers, and emails just to find out when something is due!

What language(s) do you speak and write?
English

Describe yourself in 3 words
Patient, Compassionate, Independent.
